Pricing and Booking Questions
These cover the money and scheduling side of a drain job.
Call (07) 3522 5633How is the price for a drain job worked out?
The plumber weighs up how deep the line runs, what it is made of, what caused the blockage and how easy the access is, then quotes a fixed upfront price you approve before work starts. Nothing gets added afterwards.
When do I pay?
Payment happens once the job is finished and you have watched the drain run freely. You can pay by card or EFTPOS on the day, so there is no invoice to chase and no deposit to organise.
How soon can a plumber get here?
Call in the morning and we can usually have someone at your drain the same day, though exact timing depends on the day's bookings. Petrie Same Day Blocked Drains confirms the arrival window when you book.
What should I mention when I call?
Tell us which fixtures are slow or backing up, whether the drain has blocked before, and whether any water or sewage has surfaced outside. Those details tell the plumber which line to suspect before the van leaves.
Do I need to be home for the whole visit?
It helps to be there at the start, so the plumber can walk through the symptoms and access points, and again at the end to see the tested result. Between those two moments you can get on with your day.
What if the blockage sits in the Unitywater main?
The line from your house to the connection point is your responsibility, while the sewer main beyond it belongs to Unitywater. If the camera shows the fault sits in their main, we say so plainly so you can lodge it with them instead of paying for work that is not yours.
Local Drain Questions
These come up because of the village-era pipes, the hillside streets and the wet summers here.
Call (07) 3522 5633Why do drains block more after summer storms?
Petrie averages 1134 mm of rain a year, most of it in summer downpours that wash silt, leaves and garden waste into gullies and blocked stormwater lines. A pipe that coped with a light shower can overload inside one heavy cell.
Are the old village pipes harder to clear?
Often, yes. The earthenware drains under the oldest streets have joints that opened with age, and roots work into those gaps year after year, so a CCTV drain inspection usually shows why the line keeps blocking before any repair is quoted.
Can tree roots be cleared without digging?
Usually, because an electric eel or jet blasting cuts roots back inside the pipe without opening the ground, which suits the mature canopy around the old homestead hill. If the root entry has cracked the pipe, that is when drain repairs come into the quote.
Which suburbs do you cover besides Petrie?
The round covers Kurwongbah, Kallangur, Lawnton, Joyner and Whiteside alongside Petrie, and each has its own page on this site. If you sit just outside those boundaries, ring anyway, because the work reaches across Brisbane's northside and Moreton Bay.
Do newer houses get blocked drains too?
They can. Streets built from the 1980s onwards use PVC, which resists roots better than clay, but stormwater lines still catch silt and leaves, and building debris left inside a new line causes early blockages.
How do I know if a drain is blocked or just slow?
Gurgling when another fixture runs, water rising in the toilet bowl, or several drains slowing at once all point to a blockage building in a shared line. One slow basin that improves after cleaning the trap is usually a fixture problem instead.
